The Photography & Creative Playbook

The Photography & Creative Content Playbook

What actually works in photography & creative reels — the plays we run.

The exact plays our production system runs on. We publish them because the plays aren't the moat — running them every single day is.

We rank 17 photography & creative across six metros — median visibility 60/100, scored on public presence only. The plays below are what we run on the content side.

The plays

1. Hook archetype (first 1.5-2 seconds)

What we expect: Proof-first and curiosity-gap hooks produce the highest 3-second hold and therefore the highest downstream click-rate for high-uncertainty local services; the winning archetype is niche-dependent and must be measured per niche, never pooled into a global winner.

Start here: Default for transformation/trust-deficit niches (roofing, medspa, fitness, real-estate reveals). Doubles as the contrast payoff. Use when the client has a real before/after or a documentable count/credential.

2. Hook concreteness level

What we expect: Click-rate peaks at 'middling' concreteness; hyper-specific can REDUCE clicks by resolving the gap in-feed. The optimum is context/niche-dependent and must be measured, not assumed.

Start here: Rarely; mainly as the low anchor of the concreteness sweep. Often non-credible and skipped — only when the niche's measured optimum sits low.

3. CTA offer frame (dated-outcome vs service-name, gain vs loss)

What we expect: Dated-outcome framing beats service-naming everywhere; loss/detection wins for inspection/audit offers while gain/reciprocity wins for prevention/maintenance — the gain-vs-loss split is niche-dependent and modest, so it must be measured, not presumed.

Start here: Default — beats naming the service in every niche. Vary ONE of {outcome, time, effort, likelihood} per test to attribute the lift.

4. Primary link mechanic (where the click lives)

What we expect: Comment-to-DM yields materially higher click-rate and lead-rate per reach than bio-link on equivalent reels, while bio-link remains the always-available floor; YouTube must name the channel surface or clicks silently fail.

Start here: Primary on conversion reels when the CLIENT has their own IG/TikTok DM automation. Highest-leverage single mechanic; single easy-to-spell words (QUOTE/ROOF/GUIDE/INFO) get most compliance. Honesty: never claim…

5. CTA phrasing, repetition & placement

What we expect: A single action+benefit CTA, triple-placed and on-screen (mute-safe), beats stacked asks and end-only/generic CTAs on click-rate; the lift comes from reduced ambiguity + catching pre-end-card drop-off.

Start here: Default for every conversion reel; strip like/follow/share from any click-goal reel.

6. Offer / redirect destination (lead-magnet archetype)

What we expect: Reveal-a-Problem wins in trust-deficit trades; Sample/Trial wins in experiential niches; lower-commitment asks lift clicks but the true optimum maximizes form-fills, not raw clicks — judge on the secondary metric to catch click-bait wins.

Start here: Trust-deficit trades (roofing, contracting, real estate) — surfaces a worsening problem the buyer wants diagnosed.

The principles underneath

3-second retention is the master gate — engineer the hook before anything else — Make 3-second retention the FIRST gate metric per reel and A/B the opening 1.5-2s (visual + spoken first line + on-screen text) before testing any other lever. Front-load the payload word in second 0; layer the hook across 3 channels (VO…
Optimize for sends/saves, not likes — reach is bought with watch-time + shares — Engineer every reel to be SAVED (a keepable checklist/number/'how to spot X') or SENT ('send this to the buddy who needs a new roof'), with an explicit micro-prompt. Track saves-per-reach and sends-per-reach as leading indicators…
Keep the click OFF the post body; build to each platform's one real link surface — Default architecture: reel earns reach -> verbal+on-screen CTA names the platform-correct tappable surface -> tracked redirect -> client site. Never put a raw client URL in an IG/TikTok caption or a Shorts description. Say 'link in bio'…
